just a phone call or text away

I absolutely love the relationship part of midwifery.  Getting to know clients who become friends is the absolute best.  Many people don't ever get to experience that one on one attention and care that normally only comes from the midwifery model of care.  I love to stay connected with my clients, hear their stories, and experience with them their joys and pains of pregnancy, labor, and breastfeeding.  I expect a phone call or text when a question or thought comes.  I feel like that's why I am here.  For me, it's not just about catching a baby.  It's also about serving a woman and her family with their informational and emotional support.  Oh.. and getting a random picture text of a baby I met in utero and witnessed the first minutes of life with is absolutely priceless.  Just today one of my friends sent me a picture of her little one who is almost 9 months (still trying to figure out how that came so fast!).  He was pulling up and giggling so hard at his mama.  What joy!  When families give me the ultimate privilege of following alongside them while they carry their future I'm speechless at the opportunity.  Just a bit of musing.
