ABOUT THE MIDWIFE

Picture
Toni Hill, Midwife
Toni Hill is a direct-entry midwife serving North Mississippi with traditional home birth midwifery.  She has been involved with birth work for over 17 years, first supporting families as a doula in both hospital and home birth settings.  Like many midwives before her, she has received her formal midwifery training through a variety of means. She has been blessed to learn from the hands and at the feet of many midwives, has completed extensive self-study, completed The Farm Midwifery Assistant training (June 2013), completed The Farm Midwifery Advanced training (August 2013), and an amazing apprenticeship toward CPM credentialing with Full Circle Midwifery in Memphis, TN.  She remains current in basic adult and child CPR and NRP (neonatal resuscitation).  She has also completed, BEST (birth emergency skills training), and STABLE.  She is a CLC (certified lactation counselor) Feb 2016, a current La Leche League leader, and worked previously as a lactation specialist at WIC with the MS Department of Health.  She is the Founding Executive Director of Northeast Mississippi Birthing Project and Mississippi Center for Birth and Breastfeeding Equity.

APPRENTICE MIDWIFE

Christa McGrew, Apprentice Midwife
Christa McGrew is an apprentice working toward earning her CIM (Certified International Midwife) with IRM (International Registry of  Midwives).  Currently, she is serving as primary under supervision with Blooming Moon. She has worked with Toni since 2013 and has assisted at nearly 100 births. She earned a B.S. in Child Development from Mississippi State University in 1999 and completed Certified Lactation Counselor training in 2016. She has also participated in a variety of midwifery skills workshops including B.E.S.T. and S.T.A.B.L.E. Christa maintains current NRP (neonatal resuscitation) and BLS (basic life support) certification and enjoys attending childbirth conferences and teaching childbirth education classes. Having given birth in a birth center, a hospital, and at home, she can honestly say there is no place like home for birth! When she isn’t at a birth, she can usually be found chauffeuring her five children to various homeschool activities or teaching music to children in the Starkville Homeschool Music Co-op choir. She also likes to cook, work with yarn and fabric, and aspires to be fluent in Spanish and Hebrew. Christa is married to Matthew and oversees the learning of their five children, Kenna, Landon, Riley, Galen, and Archer.

BIRTH ASSISTANTS

Picture
Lauren Paige Tage, Assistant
Lauren Paige Tate has been serving women and families for five years in North Mississippi as a doula trainer, pregnancy, birth and postpartum doula, placenta encapsulation specialists, an NRP certified midwife assistant and community herbalist. She is mother of four and has had two unmedicated hospital births as well as two home births. She homeschools her children and has a small homestead. She believes that all women’s bodies were created to birth their baby and is passionate about delivering evidence based information to all women.  Find out more about Lauren Paige and her offerings on her website Loom and Moon.

Sierra Williams, Assistant
Sierra Williams began pursuing birth work after her first child was born in 2014. She began serving as a doula the same year and completed certification in 2015. Sierra is passionate about serving women and families in multiple capacities which lead her to working with Toni as a midwife assistant in May of 2016. She is current with NRP certification and is working toward more education as a birth worker. Having witnessed and been a part of births in hospitals and in homes, Sierra believes in women and their ability to safely achieve the birth they desire: she has birthed once in a hospital and once at home which has solidified this belief. Sierra received a B.A. in Foreign Language from Mississippi State University in 2010 and hopes to use that to help serve underrepresented communities in Mississippi and beyond. Sierra is married to Ben and they have two children; Park and Norah. They make their home in Starkville, MS.

Stacey Herrin, Assistant
Stacey Herrin has been working with Toni Hill since early in 2017. After having her first baby in a hospital, she knew that she wanted something different - something more natural and mother minded - for the next baby. She gave birth to her second baby in 2016 under the care of Toni in the comfort and convenience of her home which is where her love and passion for birth work was born. Experiencing individual and mother-centered care showed Stacey that there were lots of women who do not know that there are other options available. She has since completed doula training, CPR, and neonatal resuscitation with plans to continue educating herself to better provide for clients. Stacey is sharing this life with her husband, Landis, and children, Rowan and Bricker.

Teffanie has an AA degree in business as well as a cosmetology license.  It's obvious that she loves working with the public.  While she is a fun-loving person,  she is also trustworthy and straight forward. She is a hard worker and is always willing to learn and makes it a point to stay teachable. Teffanie is a great leader because she's also a good follower.
